The half-way stage of the Indian Chess School’s 3rd FIDE Rating Chess Tournament in progress here at Don Bosco High School, Matunga, witnessed a major shock as Top-seeded International Master, Vikramaditya Kulkarni (ELO 2458) was held to a draw by Rajababu Gajengi (ELO 1983) in the 5th round. In a marathon game lasting 90-moves, Vikramaditya drew all his experience but Rajababu was equal to the task to walk away with a very creditable draw.
The 2nd board also witnessed a great battle as IM Aditya Udeshi (2357) produced a Houdini act to wriggle out of a very tough position against Vaibhav Bhat (1919) to score a full point
IM Aditya Udeshi has now moved into the lead with 3-other players, Sagar Shah (2298), Amardeep Bartakke (2195) and Snehal Bhosale (2095) with a perfect score of 5/5.
The tournament has attracted 262 players inclusive of 98 FIDE rated players from all-over Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane district who are vying for a prize fund of Rs.75,000/- with the winner’s purse of Rs.21,000/-
The tournament is recognized by the All India Chess Federation under the aegis of Maharashtra Chess Association and Bombay Chess Association.
