The Man behind the Movement

The founder

The founder of Indian Chess School (ICS), Mr. Praful Zaveri has, over a training career span of over 25-years, coached more 3000+ students, empowered 75+ trainers to teach chess and introduced chess-in-schools program in more than 12-schools in Mumbai.
His experience and expertise cover coaching, giving seminars, organizing tournaments, officiating as Arbiter, writing chess books among a myriad other facets.

       The driving force

Among the countless winners, he has produced at Inter-School, District, State, National & International level chess tournaments are:

Ridit Nimdia: 3rd place World Schools 2009, turkey

Ridit Nimdia: Joint 2nd, Dubai Junior International                   Championship 2014

Soham Palkar: Joint 4th Dubai Junior International Championship 2014

       The author

Mr. Praful Zaveri has authored 8 chess training manuals:
The Chess Course (1999) – This book is a best-seller and has sold more than 100,000 copies.
Mastermind Chess (2008) – The Chess Course – a Curriculum (a set of 6-books, which is used by academies and schools as ‘Chess Curriculum’.His experience and expertise cover coaching, giving seminars, organizing tournaments, 
officiating as Arbiter, writing chess books among a myriad other facets.

       The organizer

Mr. Praful Zaveri s noted for his organisational skills and has successfully organised more than 100+ chess tournaments of Schools, District, State, Nationals & International levels.
He has put Mumbai on world map by organising IIFL Wealth Mumbai International Chess Tournament for 5-consecutive years from 2015 to 2019. Multiple world chess champion, Viswanathan Anand is Patron of this traditional event.
By virtue of these achievements, Mr. Praful Zaveri is all set to be conferred with the title of FIDE International Organizer (FIO).

       The envoy

FIDE Trainers’ Seminar at Botswana in 2008
FIDE Trainers’ Seminar at Chennai in 2009
International Chess-in-Schools Seminar at Armenia in 2016
Training the Trainers program at Goa in 2018 & 2019
International Chess-in-Schools Seminar at New Delhi 2019

       The teacher

Mr. Praful Zaveri has been nominated as Coach of the Indian chess team on 5 ocassions at the following international chess tournaments:
Asian Schools, 2014 at Taichung Taiwan
World Schools, 2015 at Pattaya, Bangkok
Asian Youth, 2015 at Suwon, South Korea
World Cadets Chess Championship 2017, Brazil
Abu Dhabi Grandmasters Chess Tournament 2019

Mr. Praful Zaveri had a (peak rating of ELO 2015) and a joint 3rd place in Colombo International Open Tournament in February 2007 to his credit.
