May 31, 2023 – A Historic day for ICS

The 31st of May, 2023 will go down as a red-letter day for ICS as we signed a historic MOU with St. Petersburg Chess Association (SPCA) for mutual cooperation to develop and strengthen cooperation between the parties in the development of chess. The agreement to this effect was signed by our founder, Praful Zaveri whereas for SPCA, it was signed by M. Vladimir Bykov, Executive Director.

  1. The purpose of this Memorandum is to develop and strengthen cooperation between the
    Parties in the development of chess sport.
  2. The Parties will promote the arrangement of joint chess competitions, training camps for
    young chess players, and the creation of sites (platforms) for the exchange of experience
    and information.
  3. Joint activities under this Memorandum will be carried out in the following forms:
  • exchange of experience and information;
  • exchange of specialists and delegations;
  • holding joint chess competitions;
  • holding joint chess training camps for young chess players.
    The agreement was due to efforts of Dr. Elena Remizova, Director & Vice-Consul of the Russian Centre in Mumbai. She headed a high-level discussion to ensure success of this program.
    The signing ceremony was held in the foyer hall, which was attended by Dr. Elena Remizova along with Senior Consul General of Russia in Mumbai, Mr Sergey Mescheryakov. Apart from the dignitaries we also had the presence of our students, parents and team ICS.

To commemorate the occasion, a six-player online match was arranged between ICS and SPCA on Scheveningen system. The teams comprised of the following players:

Our opponent justified their rating to win the event comprehensively with a score of 29.5 – 6.5 but it was a wonderful learning experience for our players. For ICS, Aarya Maniar scored 3/6 with two wins and two draws and Om Murdeshwar scored 2/6
